Meet our Founder
My name is Mya C. Matthews. My love for music began in church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where the vibrant sounds of gospel music captivated me. This initial spark ignited a lifelong passion, leading me to learn drums and piano, join various ensembles, and even study music at Prairie View A&M University. While in undergrad, I discovered a new calling: teaching. After three years of teaching 4th grade in HISD, I felt a strong pull back to music. In 2024, I merged my two passions, music and teaching, by instructing piano and music theory for after-school programs in Fort Bend ISD. This journey eventually led me to a music teaching position at a charter school in Houston, Texas, where I continue to inspire and be inspired every day.
